Choose one conflict in The Hobbit, and explain how Tolkien uses it to move the story forward.

Troll Trouble
(Chapter II "Roast Mutton")

Poor Bilbo!! I wonder what Bilbo's face looked like when three huge, lumbering ,hungry trolls were gazing at him. He was just an innocent, little Hobbit scouting ahead of the search party when the trolls tried to eat him for dinner. Then when he drew all the other dwarves into the mess. How embarrassing that must have been. A "professional burglar" leading a posse of dwarves into a mess that almost get them killed, just as their journey began! I wonder how much of a professional he felt he was. I bet he hoped there were no more conflicts left until Smaug but, boy, was he wrong!
Tolkien uses this to move the story forward by starting the book of with one big physical conflict. But, in the long run, this will be somewhat smaller than the conflicts that lie ahead.
What a great lead!!! I love your voice in this! AMAZING! This is how you should write EVERYTHING! Now, if you read this outloud (but just to yourself) I know you will hear where you need to make some changes. Can you find a fragment? I bet you can. If you fix this, and show me, I will raise your grade! Oh, never mind! I already raised it! But you should find your errors anyway! I LOVE it! Mrs. Best
